Well I just returned last night from one of the best vacations EVER. I was in Cancun, Mexico for four days and I cried on the plane coming back. I was so sad to leave and am even more upset today being back to work. It was like paradise. I asked Pat which he liked better - Hawaii or Cancun - and he couldn't say. They are both awesome for different reasons. We left Sunday morning and met up with the rest of the AXA peeps in AZ and all flew on the same flight to Cancun. There were about 35 of us so it was a great crowd (all the fun people of course!). Once we got there, we checked in - with champagne waiting - and then headed to a cocktail reception. I got to hang out with some of the wives and girlfriends and catch up while the men talked business. After a bit a group of us headed to one of the resort restaurants for dinner. All inclusive nice resorts are the bomb. We had a fantastic dinner and didnt even have to think twice about price! It was sweet! The restaurant was right by the ocean too! After dinner a bunch of us met at one of the lounges in the hotel and just stayed there for the night. The best part was the self serve nacho bar. I must have eaten 10 lbs of guacamole!
Monday we spent the ENTIRE day at the pool. They had a DJ and a swim up bar (isn't that all you need?!). One of the girls I've become friends with and I headed to the beach for a bit in the later afternoon and sat in the sand and talked for a few hours. The ocean was like bathwater! The waves were really powerful tho and I scraped up my knee a bit and the top part of my leg just by brushing it on the sand during a huge wave! When it started getting dark, it poured. It was the weirdest thing. Pat and I took full advantage and just stayed in the pool hanging in the rain. It was quite romantic :) That evening, we went to dinner at another restaurant in the hotel and hung out at the same lounge later on.
Tuesday we were invited by Pat's boss and his wife to go to a small island off the coast and spend the day with a few other people. It was quite interesting when we got there. It was definitely the feeling of being in Mexico - very, very poor and rundown. We rented a few golf carts and headed to a private beach club and spent the day on the beach. Then we stopped on the way back at this little bar right off the road and had the best carne asada tacos I've ever eaten in my life. It was completely random to stop there but well worth it! After getting back to the resort, Pat and I treated the Vegas guys to dinner off site but down the road. It was really, really good and on the water as well. Did you know that there are salt water crocodiles? Well there are and we saw one in the water! It was crazy! I also didn't know that warm water lobster's don't have claws. Only the ones in colder water, like up in New England have claws! Learn something new everyday! After dinner, we headed to this much anticipated club called Coco Bongo. OMG is all I have to say. They promote it like a Vegas show/club and that's exactly what it was. They had impressionists sing songs and Cirque du Soleil performances. It was entertaining that's for sure. Apparently the bar stays open until the last person leaves, which basically means it's pumping 24 hours straight. I was highly impressed.
The last day we spent a few hours at the beach soaking in some sun before heading back home. I can't wait to go back sometime. All inclusive is the way to go, for sure! Pat's boss was already talking about next year's trip and they're probably going to trade off each year with Cancun and Cabo. That will be super exciting (and a much shorter plane ride!)
