Oh man, Pat and I had the BEST time on our vacation. It seriously couldn't have gone better. I arrived in Philly on Wed and Missy picked me up from the airport. We met Pat at my hotel and then the three of us went to dinner at the oldest Italian restaurant in Philly. The atmosphere was cool, but the food wasn't the greatest. It's hard to compare Italian food when you're used to the best here! Afterward, we all just went to our hotels because Missy had to work the next day and Pat and I wanted to get a good night's rest for our sightseeing day. It ended up being such an awesome day. We got a little late start and instead of breakfast, went straight for lunch. We wanted a philly cheesesteak so bad but couldn't find this one restaurant that was recommended. We ended up walking EVERYWHERE to find it and never did. So we took another recommendation and went to South Street and happened to stumble upon a diner like place and got one there. We later found out that it is rated as one of the best cheesesteak places in Philly! It was pretty yummy! After that, we went to see Independence Hall where the Declaration was signed. We learned that the founding fathers technically stated our independence on July 2nd, not the 4th, and that the actual document wasn't signed until August. The 4th is the day that they read the Declaration to the public. I thought that was pretty interesting. Afterward, we saw the Liberty Bell, some exhibits, and then took one of those duck boat tours around the city. It was totally cheesy but hilarious and fun. Then we took a cab over to the Art Museum where I ran up the steps like Rocky. It had a beautiful view of the city! Later that night we went out with Missy for some seafood and then hit up a bar but didn't stay too long.
Friday morning we drove back to DC and went to Arlington Cemetery. It still amazes me each time I see it. Then we went to a club with some of Missy's friends. It was really fun! Saturday we went sightseeing all day and thought we were all going to die of heat exhaustion. I forgot how hot it is when there's ridiculous humidity! We saw all of the monuments and memorials and then went into the National Archives to see the Constitution and the Declaration. It's so amazing to see those original documents! Plus, Pat and I LOVE National Treasure so it was cool to be in the places (in both Philly and DC!) that they highlighted in the movie. Later in the evening, we met up with more of Missy's friends and went to this really cool bar called The Park. We had alot of fun.
Sunday was the best day ever. We went on a private tour of the White House! One of Missy's friends' roommate works there so he was able to give us the tour. It was incredible. I just was in awe the entire time thinking to myself, "I can't believe I am in the White House!" We did a tour of the entire West Wing, except for the rooms that were completely off limits, and got to see the Oval Office. It's so beautiful. Hard to imagine that every president except Washington has lived and worked in that house! The whole experience was just amazing!
So needless to say we had alot of fun. I'm super tired and can't catch up on sleep but it was well worth it. I'm looking forward to more vacations like that! I'd love to do Boston and NYC next!
I have 12 days left of school and I can't wait. I'm actually getting alot of stuff done early for our end of the year checkout so I'm not stressing out as bad as I thought I would. Now I just need to pack my room up!
Here are some pictures from our trip. Enjoy! :)
