Well today I encountered my first heart break with a student. Shortened version: she constantly seeks attention in a negative way and when I had a conference with her today about why she acts the way she does, she told me that she's just trying to get attention because no one ever gives her any. She told me that no one has ever said they cared about her and that they usually just tell her to shut up and sit down. I felt TERRIBLE when she said that because I've told her that a couple times already (not in those exact words though). I mean how awful to be a 9 year old and to have never experienced the feeling that someone cared about you. So I made her a deal. I told her that every other Friday we will evaluate her behavior and if we agree that it has been positive, she can eat lunch with me that day. Her face LIT UP like no other. So hopefully it works.
I'm so completely exhausted. I'm not really doing alot at school yet but I still am SO tired everyday. Last night I fell asleep at 9:30 and I was STILL tired this morning!!! But, I am very proud of myself because I was actually early to work, which is very unusual for me. There really ended up being no point to getting to school early because all I did was talk to the other 4th grade teachers until it was time for school to start - haha. I can't wait until the weekend comes so I can try and get myself more organized. I had planned on it last weekend but I obviously failed. It's just driving me crazy not knowing what I'm doing days in advance. I guess when you're used to doing things the "Eastern" way, anything less seems unorganized. Anyone that went through their teacher program will understand what I mean.
Well, it's 8:15 and I'm already yawning like every 5 minutes. AND, I still have a crap load of papers to grade and figure out what the heck I'm going to do in school all day tomorrow - hahahaha. I just can't wait til school's out cuz alot of the teachers are going to the Venetian for a dinner party for the art teacher who's getting married next month. It shall be interesting to party with co-workers, especially teachers.....
