Well, I was in a good mood today until I was driving home from school and got yelled at by the crossing guard at the end of the street. I didn't even do anything wrong, except creep into the cross walk to turn right and since traffic was heavy I sat there for a bit and some guy (who was originally kinda far away) crossed the street in front of me. The old crossing guard ran into the street, right in front of my car with his big ole stop sign and started yelling at me and told me he'd write me up next time. I was like yea ok dude. Seriously wtf? It's not like I hit anyone!

Anyway, overall I had a pretty good day. I was observed today by my literacy specialist on a lesson in writing and she RAVED about it during lunch. I kinda laughed because I am totally unfamiliar with this new program and feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. Apparently I did something right because she wants me to maybe teach my lesson to 1st and 2nd grade teachers because they could benefit. All I did was have my kids think of a quick story, draw pictures in sequence to tell the story, then write the story. My kids actually did really well with it and I could tell a difference using this strategy against others. So it was nice to get a pat on the back!

I did have some disturbing news today though. During prep our principal told us that the district has to cut like $10M from their overall budget or some ridiculous number like that. So each elementary has to cut $120K from their yearly budget. This most likely means salary positions because we have already cut from everything else. The district wants suggestions as to how we are going to make these cuts and then they will decide across the board. It doesn't affect me, yet, since it's kind of impossible to cut a classroom teacher. But, there is a very and I mean very slight chance that later on, if budgets stay this tight, I could lose my job. Only because if they cut say counselors or other specialists that have teaching degrees and more seniority than me, then they will be placed in classrooms and everyone will be pushed down. I really, highly doubt that it would ever trickle down to me, but you never know. Tomorrow we have a staff meeting in the morning to discuss it further and offer our suggestions of what positions we think could get canned. Ugh.
