Omg I love having "ah-ha" moments when I teach. Today ended so well! There is this hispanic kid in my class that is REALLY low and I know it's because of his language. They speak no English at home so his only exposure is at school. Anyway, I was working with him on some math story problems and he actually got one right! I was starting to get so frustrated because I was trying to think of any way that I could to re-word the question or draw pictures, or make it easier for him to see the answer and nothing was working. But finally he was like "I know the answer!...." and said it! I started clapping and yelling and all the other kids were like wtf? I didn't care though that kid had totally made my day by getting just one math problem!
I just realized that I haven't posted in a couple of days. Oops. Well this weekend was pretty good. Friday Pat and I stayed in and actually fell asleep at 11. Apparently we were tired. Saturday we worked for like 5 hours in his office (I graded papers and did "teacher stuff") and then we went to dinner for my friend's birthday. We went to Dick's Last Resort and it was seriously hilarious. They are total dicks to you and they make these chef looking hats out of butcher paper and write random stuff on it. They were so funny. After dinner we all went to a kareoke bar for a bit and then I hit a wall and made Pat take me home. Sunday I was out of commission until like 4pm. I haven't been that hung over in a loooooooooooooong time. Thank goodness I have the most amazing boyfriend ever because he went to the store to get me advil, gatorade, and dramamine. Thank you Missy and Chrissy for filling me in on the miracle of dramamine. That is truly a miracle drug!
Yesterday we had family dinner at Pat's sister's house. It was alot of fun. I love spending time with his family. I also found out that his family decided not to go to Montana for Christmas and they gave me their full blessing to take Pat to Michigan with me. His dad said he needed to see snow for Christmas :) So now I hope that Robbie can get time off so that we can go home. Otherwise, it might be a Thomas family Christmas in Vegas!
